How to Change the Spark Plug on Your Vespa

Yesterday, I couldn’t start my Vespa and I was so frustrated I wouldn’t hesitate to kill anyone who was in my way. Hahaha! It turned out that the earth wire was disconnected. It took me 2 damn hours to find out. -_-

Now let’s talk about the spark plug. I’m riding a P150XE Vespa Exclusive and the spark plug model I’m using is Champion L95YC. Read more about when you need to change your spark plug, selecting your ideal spark plug and common signs of plug wear here. Anyway, here’s how you fix/change the spark plug on your Vespa.

Changing the Vespa spark plug

Make sure your engine has cooled down before you mess with it. It wouldn’t be good to change your spark plug (or do anything to the engine) while your engine is still hot as you may spoil the threading on the piston block head. Leave your Vespa to cool down for about 15 minutes before starting the process (you could put your Vespa in a freezer if you’re the impatient kind).

1. Remove the plug cap from your spark plug.
2. Take your tool (I use the T-tool) and begin unscrewing the spark plug from the engine block.
3. Take your brand new shining spark plug and screw it in. Worried about how tight you should screw it in? Tip: Use your pinky finger to tighten during the last bits. That’s about the amount of force needed to tighten a spark plug.
4. Fix the plug cap and you’re good to go!
