Kuda Kepang – Syirik

27 Apr 2011

I’ve seen Kuda Kepang performances many times at void decks during weddings but last Sunday was the first time I saw one at the Malay Village at Geylang Serai. And I saw the full performance from start to end. I asked a guy there and he said these acts are performed every Saturday and Sunday. Didn’t know they’re still doing it.

Anyway, here’s a good article I found on Kuda Kepang – (it’s in Malay)

    pls enlighten me on this. I dont fancy this type of what they call cultural dance/ activity. I would rather participate to other beneficial things. It originated from Jawa, and practicing this dance in trance definately get a big NO from me! What do u call this trance ritual as what they call “kebatinan”. i posted a comment that I disagree with this unhealthy “going into trance”, and got a reply from them. saying that I should have a higher knowledge in my religion, Islam, before I blurt out my thoughts and opinions about them. My late Dad, was once a Pekuning silat member(1980)s, but I dont see him and the rest, getting into trances that overbearing.. Pls highlight me the definition of trances that u think is acceptable in Islam… In Singapore, it happened 2 times in Bt Pjg- the horses will run crazily, some dancing and some sprawling on floors….. RIDICULOUS!!!!

    @rosz, yo!

    Yeah! I second that. This kind of crazy activity is definitely against Islam and shouldn’t be practised.
